The colonial period of the United States has many styles associate with this architecture. Building styles of the 13 colonies influenced the building designs from the 17th century through the 19th century. In New England the 17th –century colonial houses were built primary from wood, while the ones found in Maryland, Virginia, and the Carolina use stone and brick. The “Southern Colonial” as found in the South Carolina is characterized by the hall and parlor as you enter with large chimneys projecting form the gable ends of the house.
